Hot off the ironing board:

November 17, 2011

I have been working on a baby blanket for a friend’s baby (who is due any day now!). Tonight I finished the last bit of the quilt top that I’ve been working on. The completion of this blanket has had some serious challenges so far, the greatest of which is procrastination. My beloved Elna Supermatic went kaput a few days ago, which delayed me further. It is now in the shop and will be for the next week and a half. I was able to use my old sewing machine, a trusty little baby blue Kenmore.

I am just so pleased with this quilt, so far. The colors are a little off-beat for a nursery, perhaps; but I think this particular friend will appreciate it…she certainly did a good job faking it at her baby shower when I produced an envelope of pathetic, embarrassingly small scraps as a gift, anyway. I went with a mostly black and white color scheme to emphasize the spiderweb motif, and I threw in a little chartreuse for good measure.

Tomorrow I hope to hit the fabric store to pick up some Warm and Natural and some fabric for a binding. I am using the chartreuse as the backing. It will be a load off my mind when this puppy is done. I was planning on hand-quilting, but I think I better swallow my pride and either tie it or machine quilt, so that it will be done before Baby’s first birthday.

Here are some process pictures:
